UX Research and redesign of Total Footbal android app

A complete redesign of client’s current mobile app, focusing on latest design trends and great user experience for soccer fans.

Total Football delivers comprehensive coverage of most of the major club leagues with scores, statistics, and personalized reports so you can stay on top of your favorite teams.

In July 2016 VTech Softs launched their android app and since then, they’ve gone from strength to strength in the online presence. Unfortunately, since the app’s launch, it hasn’t seen the love or attention it deserves.

So, at the begining of 2018, I helped VTech redesign their android app. Acting as a UI Designer, we collectively created a new design language, apt mobile guidelines and most of the features you’ll see to this day.

Research & Analysis

User research was conducted focusing on understanding the user needs, their expected gestures and more importantly interests of users. The intention behind this was to biuld a design language and feature set that fill cater the needs and likes of majority of the users.

Personas were identified after creating the user profile. As the application had an exclusive user base of football fans, we skipped conducting an evironmental profile.

User scenarios

We have considered just two user scenarios for this case as the application is information based and has no significant Primary Noun Architecture.

After a solid research and analysis stage, we confidently moved into creating wireframes for the application. We took the decision of focussing more on the navigation and layout of the app, opting for low-fidelity wireframes with minimal details. Ultimately, we could add design elements in later, once the low-fi wireframes are sealed.

The aesthetics of the website had a very important role to play as many users had commented about the design of previous version. We worked on several color options and typography and finally settled down to Blue color and Roboto font family. Elements were used mostly following Google’s Material design which made the development easy.

User testing

Summative user testing was applied to evaluate the reach and impact of product on the users. This was an irreplaceable usability practice without which we couldn't have measured the success of the design.

We were successful in creating a mobile application, that helps user to stay informed and recieve updates of his favourite game. With better navigation and seamless UX we have captured the interests of the users and expect the user count to grow gradually later in the year.

Manjunath has been amazing ever since he started working on designs, couldn't have asked for a better person to design. Rajashekhar V, Product Owner.

The application's owners are planning to further improve their service, so we still have a lot of work to do on the application together. So stay tuned!
