The WINGS Travel Agency Management Platform is a comprehensive agency management solution used by a major Asian travel corporation. Our project's primary objective was to deliver a robust tool for efficiently overseeing agencies, agents, offices, and more, all while prioritizing a seamless user experience. This endeavor marked my initiation into the world of design library systems, a journey filled with intriguing challenges and opportunities.

In the intricate realm of travel agency management, where efficiency and precision reign supreme, the creation of a meticulously crafted design library system for the WINGS admin portal transcended being a mere choice; it was an absolute necessity. This design library system emerged as the cornerstone of our project, equipping us with the tools to streamline intricate tasks, uphold consistency across a myriad of functions, and elevate the overall user experience.

Our task involved managing a wide array of operations within a sprawling travel agency giant like JTB. The design library system functioned as our guiding compass, helping us navigate the labyrinth of CRUD operations, agent configurations, IATA settings, and financial management. It embodied the principles of simplicity and intuitiveness, ensuring that users, ranging from agency administrators to agents, could seamlessly navigate and execute their tasks.

The design library system brought order to what might have otherwise been chaotic. It facilitated the creation, deletion, modification, and suspension of entities while providing a unified interface for efficiently managing agencies, offices, and agent pools. Its influence extended into the intricate domain of financial management, ensuring transparency and ease in handling funds for agencies, offices, pools, and agents.

More than just a tool, this design library system evolved into a strategic asset. It fostered seamless collaboration among cross-functional teams, accelerated development processes, and eased the integration of new features and updates. It served as the shared language spoken by designers, developers, and stakeholders, guaranteeing the consistent realization of our vision.

Our journey commenced with extensive discussions to delve into the specific requirements of the WINGS platform. Our foremost goal was to gain a profound understanding of the expectations and operational intricacies of the administrators within the travel agency corporation. Fortunately, our Product Owner possessed a wealth of knowledge concerning the workings of such large-scale organizations. We capitalized on this expertise to comprehensively grasp the operational dynamics and organizational structure.

Brainstorming sessions were a pivotal part of our early stages, allowing us to harmonize our collective vision and pinpoint key challenges. Collaborating closely with both the business team and the Product Owner, we translated our gained insights into meticulously detailed use cases and scenarios. This critical step played an instrumental role in delineating the project's scope and establishing unambiguous objectives. The documentation phase, born from these efforts, served as the bedrock upon which all subsequent design work would be built.

Equipped with well-defined use cases and scenarios, I initiated a collaborative effort with my team of designers to commence the creation of wireframes across various facets of the admin portal. These wireframes effectively served as the architectural blueprint for our design work, providing a structured foundation that outlined the platform's form and function.

Following the wireframe development phase, we embarked on a series of iterative processes. These iterative cycles were instrumental in refining our designs, proactively addressing potential usability challenges, and ensuring a seamless user journey. Throughout this phase, questions naturally emerged regarding the extent of flexibility the platform should offer administrators in terms of structuring their organizations and managing agents.

After careful consideration, we collectively made the strategic decision to provide maximum flexibility in the initial versions of the platform. This approach would allow us to gather valuable user feedback and insights following the initial launch. By doing so, we aimed to create a responsive and adaptable platform that would evolve in tandem with the specific needs and preferences of our user base, ultimately optimizing their experience.

Considering the expansion and growth of the admin platform, it became evident that the implementation of a design library system was imperative. This decision aimed to establish and document a comprehensive design ecosystem from the outset, facilitating seamless integration with future features and functionalities. As the wireframes evolved and became more defined, our focus shifted toward the development of this design library system. We conducted thorough research, referencing major design library systems within the industry, including Material Design, Atlassian Design, and Ant Design, to gain insights into best practices and effective processes.

Our journey began by creating design atoms, encompassing key elements such as defining typography, color schemes, and basic UI components. These foundational elements served as the cornerstone of our design library system, forming the basis upon which we built more intricate design components. Each component was thoughtfully crafted with reusability in mind, ensuring a consistent visual and functional experience across the entire platform. This meticulous approach ensured that every component seamlessly aligned with the platform's overarching design language, enhancing both aesthetics and user experience.

With a well-established design library system and a library of components, we swiftly transitioned into the UI design phase. We tailored the UI for each specific scenario, taking into account the unique requirements of managing agencies, agents, offices, and more. The UI designs not only boasted aesthetic appeal but were also meticulously focused on delivering a highly functional user experience.

Once the UI designs reached their final form, we seamlessly handed over the design system and UI components to the UI development team. Our design library system served as a comprehensive guide, ensuring consistency and efficiency throughout the development process. Ongoing collaboration between the design and development teams remained integral to ensuring that the final product aligned seamlessly with our vision.

The creation and execution of the design library system for the WINGS Admin Portal represented a collaborative endeavor that involved meticulous planning, thoughtful consideration of user needs, and an unwavering commitment to delivering a top-tier product.
